If the terms “blogger” or “blogging” scares the daylights out of you, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Like most people, the thought of writing a blog article on a weekly basis is a daunting task. We want to avoid it like the plague. So the big question becomes, why do we need to blog and how does it help our website? Well, let me break it down for ya…
Starting with your website. I’m positive that you’ve all received calls or emails from someone telling you that they can get your website to rank Number 1 on *Google. Let’s get one thing straight,
Google DOESN’T rank websites – it ranks web pages.
And for Google, the more pages — the merrier! Now, with that said, how many of us change the content on each of our web pages on a regular basis? Not many, if any at all.
Blogging Benefit #1
The first benefit of posting a blog article on a consistent basis, say once per week, is that you are providing Google with another page of content to “crawl” within your website. When Google crawls your web pages, it determines which keywords, terms, and locations are most relevant to the words and phrases people use in the search engines.
By having a blog, Google now knows that when people are using search terms or phrases, such as: “water damage clean up company” or “black mold removal services, Madison WI” and you have those terms or phrases in one or more (hopefully several) of your blog articles, you are the most likely choice to rank at or near the top of the organic search results. And the more blogs you have highlighting those topics, the more your company name floods the first page of search results.
Blogging Benefit #2
Blogging adds value to your Social Media Strategy. For every blog article you post, it also serves as a post that people can Share to your Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn accounts. And for some of you who are video savvy, your YouTube account. Put your blog articles to work for you, use them as social media posts for your followers to Share to their network (ahem…exposing you to individuals who may not know you exist!) and drive traffic back to your website.

Now, let’s combine Benefit #1 and #2 together, what do we get? Leads!!! Who loves leads? We do! We do!
Your blog articles are working their tails off for Google and your Social Media accounts, bringing prospective buyers back to your website, educating them on all of your industry knowledge, explaining your services to them, and then the ultimate happens…they hit the “Call to Action” button! You’re It! You’re the One!
Now it’s up to your sales team to seal the deal. Close the sale. Bring home the bacon!
